Vermont

I'm here with Doug in the Sterling College computer lab (if you'd call it that). It's a little risky, so we're pretending to be students writing papers or whatever other bullshit college kids do nowadays. We made the long drive up north to visit some of Sarah's old college friends in this quaint little Vermont town. After a couple of beers at the Bonz, the local tavern (it's actually pronounced bones, oddly enough), we had no problem sleeping out in the open once again in a little half-built log cabin.

We did a fast hike up to a fire tower on the top of a mountain today in a place called Elmore. It felt like we were on top of the world with manned gliders and birds of prey swooping by. It's so amazing being back in the outdoors again - something I sorely missed in NYC. Vermont actually reminds me alot of the Irish country side, minus the Guinness signs poking out of buildings. More to come from the road I'm sure...

The Beginning

So the story begins on a relatively cool Tuesday morning. With a half hangover and e heavy heart from the goodbye party the night before, we managed to tie up all the loose and and handover the apartment to my two roommates, Dave and Cassie. We decided to do a little day trip out to Long Island to take advantage of the beautiful weather as well as Dave having the day off. We stopped at Dido Beach and had a soak in the Atlantic before saying the last goodbyes and hitting the road. Leaving behind our packed lunch, our inhibitions, and $500 in parking tickets -- we were off to Connecticut.

After hours in traffic, we arrived at the Morrison house in North Haven (just north of New Haven, home of Yale). Sarah, a friend of Doug's from his trip on the bus, treated us and the rest of her family to a lovely salmon dish under the New England stars. The four of us spent the night outside in her treehouse -- probably one of the best nights sleep I'd had in weeks. I'm sure this had a lot to do with being free of all the stress with moving out of my apartment (and basically my life) in NYC.

Today we did a brief tour of Yale University. Brief meaning: driving through Yale on our way to the Eli Whitney museum. That's right, the same Eli Whitney who invented the Cotton Gin. A quick hike around the premises and we were en route to Vermont to Sara's alma mater. I'm writing this on my iPhone as we're on the road. More to come...
